Commonly Asked Q&A's

What is Qurbani?
Qurbani simply means sacrifice. This refers to the sacrifice of animal to honour Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his precious son Ismail in his devotion and dedication to Allah عزوجل. The meat from your Qurbani can be split 3 ways. One third for yourself, a third for your neighbour and a third for the poor and vulnerable. The Prophet said ﷺ “A person is not a believer who fill his stomach while his neighbour goes hungry.” (Bukhari)

Who Should Perform Qurbani?
Qurbani is compulsory (Wajib) for every sane Muslim who has reached the age of puberty and has the financial means (Nisab) of 52.5 tolas of silver, or the wealth equivalent. (Derived from: Fatawa Radawiyyah, 001.20, pp. 353-354)

THREE BLESSED SAYINGS OF BELOVED MUSTAFA REGARDING THE EXCELLENCE OF PERFORMING QURBANI:
1) The one who performs Qurbani of an animal gets the reward of one good deed for each hair of the sacrificed animal. (Sunan-M-Tirmizi, vol. 3, pp. 060, Hadees 1498
2) The one who wholeheartedly performs Qurbani of an animal for reward, his Qurbani will serve as a barrier between him and hellfire. (Al-Mu’jam-ul-Kabeer, vol. 3, pp. 84, Hadees 2736)
3) On the day of Eid-ul-Adha, man performs no other good deed that is dearer to Allah than shedding blood (of the sacrificial animal). This sacrificed animal will come with its horns, hair and hooves and the sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood of the sacrificed animal reaches the ground. Therefore, perform the Qurbani wholeheartedly.’ (Sunan-ut-Tirmizi, vol. 3, pp. 162, Hadees 1498)
